African Lions

After marvelling at the interface of Apple’s Safari for a while and trying to fathom how it could work without a menu bar, I suddenly realize why it doesn’t have a menu bar. I feel like an idiot.

Shebang

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

The shebang marks the beginning of any UNIX script. Whether it’s shell, Perl, or Python, all scripts have it. Yes, I’ve finally started learning something. I was finally fed up with all of that manual updating of Planet Hosannaletheia and looked up how to write a shell script.

Basically a shell script is just a bunch of commands. You can set variables and use branching and looping if you need. I didn’t really use any of those decision things though since it was really simple (run this file and ftp everything up to the server). My life is now a tad easier though. (more…)

The End

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

Of summer that is. I don’t know about this coming year. I’m so tired of high school, so bored of the lack of mental stimulation, so sick of the stupid people and the building. I really, really want to be done with it and go to university. (more…)

Crazy Like a Nine-Tailed Demon Fox

I don’t think any amount of preparation will prepare me for the day Naruto airs on YTV. I absolutely dread it. See, Naruto is about ninjas and we all know what ninjas do best: stealthy assassinations and cool stuff. Now then, knowing the marketing geniuses that abound in the 21st century, Naruto will very likely be targetted towards the 12 year old group. You know what that means.

All of your kunai, forehead protectors, jutsu names, hand seals, and random Japanese vocabulary will cease to be cool. Why? Because you know every last kid out there in Grade 6 will have a forehead protector and be yelling out “ART OF THE SHADOW DOPPELGANGER!!!” (which is Viz’s amazing translation of Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, which means Shadow Clone Technique) while running around at recess Naruto-style bent down at about ninety degrees with their arms angled slightly above.

I am so looking forward to September 16 :(
