Bad RAM Strikes Back

Last year, a month after I began using Gentoo, my computer seemed to have succumbed to some nasty instability problems. Segfaults, kernel panics, freezes, and crashes all within the space of an hour. I discovered that there was a bad RAM stick. After a bit of playing around, I discovered that by switching the two sticks of RAM around into each other’s slots, the problems magically disappeared.

Until now.

Yes, the problems came back and worse than ever. So I finally gave in and accepted the foul RAM’s fate. It was to be terminated and $30 would have to leave my (family’s) coffers for a replacement, in addition to spending a day with half the RAM I’m used to. I’m looking at the Corsair Value Select PC3200 ($32.99) since I’m not willing to risk $28.99 on a noname brand. See, I said to myself that I would not get any upgrades for my computer, to save up (so to speak) on my eventual university computer, unless of course, it was absolutely critical.

So long, Corsair something Xtreme, 256 MB. You’ll look cool on my wall, I guess.
