A Collision

David Crowder Band - A Collision

The highly anticipated David Crowder* Band’s new release came upon us a week or two agoI started writing this about a month ago.. I was quite excited about it and contemplated getting it for $12.86 at Blessings’ New Music Tuesday. Cooler heads prevailed and I decided that before putting down money for it, I would need to listen to it first. I’m actually quite glad I did, because it wasn’t what I was expecting.

That’s not to say it was bad. It’s really good actually. The problem was that I was basing my expectations on Here is Our King. I heard the A Collision versionWhich, sadly, is not there anymore. :( on 268generation.com while I was waiting for information on Passion Toronto. I loved it. Here is Our King is one of my favourite songs and the new version was great.

So I downloaded A Collision and gave it a whirl. It was different. It doesn’t have a lot of songs that we could use for say, Sunday service or even for fellowship. It had a completely different style from Illuminate. I would say that Here is Our King was the only song that was in Illuminate style. The rest were something completely different and something completely new.

The more I listened to it, the more it grew on me. Their style has changed and at the same time it’s completely them. And now that I think about it, they would be the ones that could do it. Chris Tomlin and co. can write some really good worship music, but David Crowder and his band are really something different.

Look at Here is Our King. At first glance, the lyrics make no bloody senselike “What was said to the rose to make it unfold?” It’s not something you can decipher immediately, is it? It’s weird. But once you read the inspiration behind the lyricsWhich can be found on their site. it’s incredibly deep.

It may not be everybody’s cup of sugar, but it’s something different that doesn’t suck.

It’s not really new, it’s been there as an alternate style. It’s just that the original happy blue and orange from before didn’t really work as well as I’d hoped. So I just added some colour to this one, gave it a bit of fine tuning and released it to the world.

I’ve made it easier for me to change the colours (there are two of them). I chose a darker orange this time around because it’s October. I plan on changing the colours in November.

I made it so that all I have to do is change two lines: one for the primary colour and one for the secondary colour. And to help me with colour choosing, I have those blending contrast and complement things on the web.
