City of Duck

Saturday was a nice day. It started out with me driving all the way to Victoria Park and Finch to AFC to join the carpool to the TC volunteer retreat. On the way to Etobicoke, we got lost, but no one knew that. Once we got there we had a nice breakfast of sugar from Tim Hortons. We had some time of worship and prayer and afterwards, we had a nice time of getting to know one another by playing some violent gamesSome of which I’ll be leading a FOCS this week..

The pizza got here and we had lots of pizza. And wings and baby carrots. And cream puffs and cheesecake. But not just any cheesecake. The top of the cheesecake was chocolatey. The actual cake part was coffee. And at the bottom, was some delicious chocolate biscuity thing. After our scrumptious lunch, we met up with our teams and got to talkWhich is good, since A/V usually meets right before the conference starts.. Then we had a large group prayer and went back to AFC.

And then something most sorrowful happened.

That night we went out to eat dinner, since it was my grandmother’s birthday. It was quite a tasty dinner. We ordered a few things: some tasty tofu and vegetablesNo, really. They were good. Usually tofu and vegetables suck., a sizzling pot of oysters and roast pork, another sizzling pot of scallops and more tofu, and a two-course peking duck.

Usually, the peking duck comes first, but this time it didn’t. Peking duck at this place is served so that they slice the surface of the duck so that you can put it in a wrap. Then they bring the rest of the duck out to be served like a normal duck would. I had lots of fun eating the other stuff though. Seafood and meat are tasty, especially in those sizzling pots. Those are the best.

However, once the duck came, I had one or two before I felt a little stuffed. Usually, I can have close to ten of those things in a row, because they are so delectable. This time, I had to have something else, anything, before downing another one. So I had some more roast pork. And I then I downed another one.

Same feeling. I couldn’t eat another one in a row, so I had some rice, had some tea, and took another one. Now by this time, it was all done but there was still the duck. Same thing! I had to stagger myself. This was not supposed to happen.

I resigned myself to the fact that I had lost the ability to eat an entire duck. What had gone wrong? It was still tasty. I wasn’t full. But for some reason, the duck was too much for me to handle, so much so that I had to supplement it with something else, lest I be overcome by the awesomeness that is duck. So I have fallen, succumbed to my weakness and inability to consume a whole duck. I will miss the entireity of the heart-stopping fatty taste that is duck.

I hope this doesn’t happen with other meats. That will just be too much to bear.
