Resnet makes sense

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Here are some interesting figures from about five minutes ago.

Location: UWP Wellesley South
Speed: about 90 kb/s
Distance: Across campus and more
Downloading: FFVII Advent Children, approx. 700 MB

Location: V1 N6
Speed: About 3 kb/s
Distance: A few buildings over
Downloading: the guy’s filelist, approx. 2 MB

Location: UWP Beck Hall
Speed: About 50 kb/s
Distance: Across campus and more
Downloading: Some BoA album that I ended up cancelling, approx 60 MB

Location: MKV
Speed: about 10 kb/s
Distance: A hell of a lot closer than UWP, slightly further than V1 North
Downloading: a filelist

Conclusion: Resnet doesn’t make sense. It is still better than getting 2 kb/s from everyone though, and I don’t mind since everyone that has everything is at UWP anyway.

Resnet is sucking right about now. With DC++, top speed seems to be about 700 kb/s, and that’s only if they’re in the same house or floor. Downloading from the same res, it drops a few hundred, and in other residences that drops to two digits. Disappointment. BUT, the selection is quite good. Plenty of anime and TV. I’m looking into starting One Piece, Bleach, or The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.
